D.C. BASED DUO, PANACEA, SET TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE ALBUM, THE SCENIC ROUTE, FROM GLOW-IN-THE-DARK & RAWKUS SEPTEMBER 4TH
The quickest way from point A to point B is a straight line, but with the release of their new full-length, The Scenic Route, DC-duo Panacea prove to be far too adventurous for the path of least resistance. MC Raw Poetic and producer K-Murdock showed what they are capable of in their first album, Ink Is My Drink, delivering a truly unique and cutting edge freshman release. With The Scenic Route, they are breaking the mold. Don’t expect a mere new-and-improved version of Ink Is My Drink this time around. K-Murdock delves into new sonic soundscapes, tapping into influences from early 70’s progressive rock and beyond, while bringing the listener on a rollercoaster ride of tempos, BPMs and overall composition. “It’s really dynamic this time around. I consider it my masterpiece,” says K-Murdock. On the lyrical end, Raw Poetic isn’t afraid to flaunt his gift. From countless flow changes to content that makes the listener think, the album is pure rap poetry.
To brush up briefly on a little high school history lesson in Greek Mythology, Panacea was the goddess of healing. The meaning behind the word stands as a remedy for all diseases or ills, which is fitting particularly for the concept behind this release. The album takes the listener on a journey through different stages of the character’s life to the point of adulthood only to realize that too much of life is wasted. As the story unfolds, track by track, the listener pops out on the other end with the ultimate understanding that the responsibility of one’s destiny lies in their own hands. To listen to The Scenic Route only once would merely scratch the surface of the depth contained within.
Initially penning a record deal with the Los Angeles based Glow-In-The-Dark Records, Panacea generated interest from the re-emerging heavy hitter Rawkus Records which resulted in a joint venture between the two labels. “Partnering with Rawkus increases the visibility of each project. They are embracing the changes to the industry rather than clinging to years past,” states Jaysonic, co-owner of Glow-In-The-Dark.
