INSIGHT AND DAMU THE FUDGEMUNK FORM NEW GROUP, Y SOCIETY, TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM, TRAVEL AT YOUR OWN PACE, ON TRES RECORDS

Boston bred Insight has joined forces with like minded producer, Damu the Fudgmunk, to create Y Society. Set for release on October 9th, Travel At Your Own Pace is the duo’s freshman release, infusing elements from Hip-Hop’s past and present. Damu and Insight are able to instill a level of nostalgia while maintaining excitement with an evolved sound. Tres Records inked a deal with the duo, feeling they were a good fit to the percussively distinct sound associated with Tres releases. The combination of Insight, a seasoned world traveler, along with Damu the Fudgmunk, a DC based newcomer, brings both wisdom and enthusiasm with Travel At Your Own Pace.

The multi-talented MC, DJ, producer Insight is most commonly associated with his solo releases on the Boston based labels Landspeed and Brick along with his group collaborations with Raheem Jamal of Electric Company. With a decade plus career under his belt and countless releases, the formation of Y Society with the relatively unknown Damu the Fudgemunk might seem an odd pairing particularly given the two have met face to face only twice. It was when Damu produced a beat tape crafted specifically with Insight in mind that upon their second encounter, Damu was able to hand it off setting the foundation for Y Society in stone. “I saw his potential. He studies and takes the time to understand,” explains Insight.

Damu is not an entirely fresh newbie to the Hip-Hop game as he made his initial mark as the DJ for Panacea who broke in 2006 on Rawkus/Glow-In-The-Dark Records. Damu’s live MPC productions on Youtube garnered a resounding response from the web community, getting tens of thousands of views. And though Insight’s production abilities are fully capable, Damu takes on the role of sole producer and frees Insight up to focus on rhymes alone.

Travel At Your Own Pace challenges the status quo. Aptly titled, Y Society stands for individuality, a constant concept throughout this album. From the album artwork, to the music, to Insight’s recording taking place in Germany, this release offers something unique. The duo attempts to inspire listeners to be themselves, do their own thing, think twice about society’s expectations and essentially, for everyone to travel at their own pace
